The Marais almost seems like a small city within Paris and has all that one would need: restaurants, cafes, bars, historic buildings and museums, more than any other neighborhood in Paris.

Discovering Paris by bike! Paris has a fabulous system of rental bikes called Vélib’. A 1-day ticket only costs about 2€, and you can use Vélib’ as often as you like for 24 hours with the 30 first minutes of each trip free. Click here for more information.

One of the few original Medieval areas of the city, it boasts the oldest street, auberge (guest house), covered market and square in Paris click here for more information about the oldest things in the Marais. Most streets are narrow retaining their Medieval intimacy as it is one of the best preserved historic enclaves of Paris. This makes the Marias today the perfect area to go for a wander as there are little squares, young designer’s fashion boutiques, celebrated restaurants, famous patisseries and delicious food shops, bijou bistros and hidden cafés, secluded parks, world class museums as well as excellent individual art galleries … plus more individually owned handbag and jewelry shops than you care to dream of. As a bonus, today, Le Marais is one of the few places in Paris where shops are open on Sunday. Paris as it should be!
