Paris is famous for its markets, and a stay here is not complete until you have browsed and tasted the wonderful foods on offer. These are within walking distance or a short Metro/bus ride away, there is
one for everday of the week, except Mondays when many places are closed.
Hotel de Ville: The closest one to the apartment, it is a small, good quality market behind the Hotel de Ville and across rue de Rivoli from Place Bourg-Tibourg. Most Wednesdays afternoons until 8.30 p.m. and Saturdays until 3p.m. Buy some of the delicous hot roast potatoes and eat them on the steps overlooking the market.
Marché des Enfants Rouges is the oldest covered food market in Paris, today, it serves a fabulous selection of foods, including some of the best falafals in Paris! This lively covered market has cheesemongers, vintners and grocers. It can get busy, so if too crowded go and try the excellent brunch at Bistro Charlot acorss the road. 39 Rue de Bretagne. Tuesday to Saturday 8:30am - 1pm and 4pm - 7:30pm (8pm on Friday and Saturday), Sunday 8:30pm - 2pm
Montorgueil: Well worth a stroll as this is a market street as opposed to a roving market, so there are a number of good restaurants in the small streets, such as the traditional bistro La Grille Montorgueil at the bottom of the street. This market can get busy in the summer months.
Saint Eustache Les Halles: An outdoor market on Rue Montmartre, between rue Rambuteau and rue du Jour. Thursday afternoons and Sunday until 3pm.
Saint Honore: An outdoor market on Place du Marché-Saint-Honoré, Wednesday afternoons and Sturday until 3p.m.
Bourse: An outdoor market on Place de la Bourse, Tuesdays & Fridays afternoons until 8:30 p.m.
Sunday Flower and Bird Market. A delightful walk on a Sunday morning is to go and visit the Flower Market and Bird Market called: Le Marché aux Fleurs and Le Marché aux Oiseaux. It is a 15 minutes stroll from the flat to the location on the Island Ile de la Cité. Sundays from 10am.
Marché Bastille/Richard Lenoir: Although a walk or a short metro ride away, this market is definitely one of the best and largest in Paris. Held every Thursday and Sunday on Avenue Richard Lenoir, starting at the Bastille and reaching for several blocks up the avenue, this market is a must if you love the sights and smells and the tastes of the French outdoor markets. Prices get cheaper as you get closer to the Place de la Bastille.
