There are many large and small galleries and individual ateliers in the Marias. There are 98 galleries listed here: Galleries in the Marais, but the main collection of galleries are clustered around the northen end of rue Vieille du Temple.
Galerie Charlot: An excellent small contemporary art gallery on two floors. Valerie, who owns it, speaks excellent English.
Yvon Lambert Gallery is a contemporary art gallery founded by Yvon Lambert in 1966. There are two locations; one in Paris and the second in New York. Since 1977, the Paris Gallery has ben in rue du Grenier St Lazare in the Marais. Lambert showed founders of conceptualism, minimalism and land art such as Carl Andre and Lawrence Weiner.
The Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac was founded in 1983 and has specialized in European and North American contemporary art. In 1990, a gallery featuring over 600m2 of exhibition space was opened in Paris. In April 2007, a new 200m2 drawings space was inaugurated above the existing gallery. The Paris gallery, located next to the Musée Picasso in the Marais district, now stretches over three floors.
Galerie Perrotin began in 1989 in Emmanuel Perrotin’s apartment, successfully opening its Parisian space in 1993. The gallery has built a business on spotting young talent and is considered one of the most creative and daring galleries worldwide.
Architecture
Created in 1988 the Pavillon de l’Arsenal is the centre for information, documentation and exhibition for urban planning and architecture of Paris. It is a unique place, where information concerning urban development and architectural realisations in Paris is available to everyone.
